Hello!

Twitter is currently deaded, and I had some time to make an update, and realized that WOW, I've been reading LJ, but not really updating it.

Yeah yeah, I always say that. I post about not posting and then go back to not posting.

Been working lots. Seriously. Lots. I don't even know where September went.
Been buying too many books.
At least I'm getting some reading done and have a reading list.
Been to some cool Halloweeen stuff. Knotts was really fun, not busy at all, no lines for anything. First Sunday of Knots FTMFW!
SoCon (LARP convention in Ontario) was fun. Almost lost a character. Caught up with some people I haven't seen in a while.
Saw The Invention of Lying, we really got a kick out of that. Fun little film, different and clever.

Excited about upcoming events:

Many Halloween themed events, Universal on Sunday, and a few other haunted houses/mazes throughout the month

Wedding to attend on Halloween (still trying to figure out what to wear)

Surprise day off Monday (forgot there was a holiday coming up that my company gets off, Columbus day)

Disneyland on Columbus Day

Got week of Christmas off, and still have some planning pending for that week but it looks to be eventful.

Okay, back to work. Today is a going away lunch for a couple people who are leaving the company tomorrow, and lunch is zooming up quickly.

Writer's Block: Clock Punching

What was your first job?

View 551 Answers

My first job was one that I shared with my twin sister while in highschool, though technically I was the only one on payroll.
We would take turns coming into a health food store and sandwich shop to do basic cleaning, and prep some things for the next day like cutting veggies for soup stock, etc.
We got this job because the owners knew us as we had been coming in with our mom since we were 6.

Basically, we came in one day to shop and they were like "How would you like an after school job 4 days a week?"
And we were like "Sure!"
And they were like "You're hired!"
And we were like "Both of us?"
And they were like "Just as long as someone is here, we don't care how you sort it out."
And we were like "Rad!"
And they were like "Fabulous! You start Monday!"
And we were like "Sweet! First job! *highfive!*

And that's how it happened.

Writer's Block: And the Apple Goes To

Who is/was your favorite teacher in school?

View 516 Answers

Mr. Schilling, 3rd Grade Teacher

Mr. Schilling was an unconventional teacher.

He didn't have a desk, he had an ironing board and a barstool.

He introduced me to Rock Paper Scissors, a popular method of decision making, tie-breaking, etc. in class.

If you got 100 percent on mid week spelling test, you got to verbally give the final test. (If more than one got 100%, winner chosen by rock-paper scissors)

When verbally giving the rest of the class the test, you did so with a set of plush antlers on your head. You were also exempt from that final test.

He would inspire creative writing stories in the weirdest ways. Famous story topics were rat pie (including simulating rat pie by baking chicken pot pies in class, and hiding the packages), cockroaches who stole his razor (he grew out his bear a little and blamed it on roackes), and warts (he had us make clay warts with boars har brush bristles sticking out)

Good answers, scores, behavior etc. earned tickets, which were entered into a drawing for prizes. Often just candy and toys and whatnot, but people loved it.

He got a new truck, and when leading the class out to recess, we were led to the parking lot to all declair in unison "baaaaadd truck!" (because bad meant cool back then)

He introduced me to a lot of music including Santana and Jerry Lee Lewis. Pretty much everything on the Stand By Me soundtrack reminds me of the third grade.

We got to grow mold in class.

We got to grow meal worms in class.

He taught us how to play Go

We got ot do some advanced science stuff in the GATE program, including some dissections. I was fascinated.

He spoke to us like we were smart and competent. I didn't feel like I was treated like a kid.

30 minutes, dark chocolate, and LJ

Hello LJ land!

It's been a while.

As I sat here at work, eating one of my dark chocolates from my well visited candy basket on my desk, realizing that a half hour isn't much time for accomplishing any new tasks, but I have not updated LJ for a while aside from writer's block subjects, so here I am. :) Been reading, but not writing so much these days.

Anywho.

Been a weird week. A great guy and friend who worked for my company since 2000 passed away over the weekend, and work has been moving in a very different pace this week due to that. Overall energy here has been way off this week, and understandably so. Funeral is noon on Friday, and I'm not sure if I will go or not. I'd kinda like to. Logistically it would be difficult, out in Glendale, I already have guys in my group out that day, and this is the 8th person that I've known in the past 2 years who has passed away, so I'm just not sure I'm up for another funeral. He was only 31.

In other news, been working lots. Been trying to organize my stuff. I have way too much stuff. I have made a few attempts to purge stuff, even brought my sis over to help, so little by little I'm making progress but still, it's a lot of stuff that has taken over my place.

Gaming: Usual Larps continue, been fun. Finished my D&D campaign not too long ago. Planning on starting Adventure! soon, but haven't even looked at the book yet.

Currently reading William Shatner's autobiography. Good stuff. Often funny, and very heartfelt. Next is probably going to be the series of new Star Trek novels that Erik's blown through and has really enjoyed. My reading list has grown, and I hadn't been reading for a while, but am getting back into reading regularly now. It helps when I put the blackberry away while riding the bus. :)

Am currently looking for a desktop computer to be a suitable replacement for mine which is near deaded, life only being prolonged by avoiding use unless needed. Also looking at netbooks, for handy running around use.

Also, been looking at getting a unicycle and learning how to ride it. Have decided that it would be a nifty hobby to take up, would take some exercise and work to learn, build some skills, and would be easy to take with me onto a bus if needed. Anyone know of a 24" unicycle needing a good home, let me know. :)

Alrighty, ready to pack it up and head on out. Talk to ya folks later!
I don't recycle at home. I used to, but couldn't find a decent way to do it without attracting bugs and spiders.
I eat meat, and I know cows far a lot, and that is bad for the environment.
Aside from that, I am not sure what else. I don't use much in the way of aerosols, I don't drive, in general I'm not wasteful with water or electricity. *shrug*

BTW, I know I don't post a lot, and when I do is it usually one of these. I plan on posting an actual post soon. I promise. :)

I know I've grown up and slowed down a bit (it's kinda sad actually, and I aim to fight any further growing up or slowing down) since I originally identified with this character sometime between junior high and high school, but it's gotta be Tank Girl.

The comic, the movie, the music in the movie, the attitude, the style, the language... Hells Yeah!

I may not look very Tank Girl, but my inner punk rock girl still wears those combat boots I discarded years ago.

There have been ups and downs, but it has been a few years since my weight on the scale didn't start with a 2.

When I checked my weight yesterday, and today just to make sure... my weight did not start with a 2.

I wouldn't say I'm "OMG excited!!1!~one!" and am only less than a pound away from that number, at least I'm on this side of it now.

Am feeling fairly encouraged to keep up on things right now. :)

Hello LJ, how's tricks?

Oh look! An update that has nothing to do with the daily writer's block that LJ provides!

So, lots of craziness.
Work is busy.
Non-work is busy.
My little brother is getting married in 6 days.
The bf and I are working through camera stuff so that we can film it. The camera is complicated but fun.
Hopefully things turn out well.
Was trying to think of cool wedding gift for bro, but it may wind up being money spent on equipment to make filming their wedding more awesome.
Still need a dress to wear to the thing. My stuff is either too casual, too costumey, or doesn't fit.

Haven't gotten back into the swing of things with workouts, but plan to hit kickboxing tomorrow.
Gained back some of the weight I lost. Bah.

I did get hit on, if you can call it that, by 3 random strangers yesterday, but all of them were creepy and gross. I was creepy-gross-jerk magnet whenever I left the apartment.

First was in the morning, at the grocery store, dude stops shopping and literally steps up to my cart and got less than a foot from me, stared at me for a while as if he was trying to remember me from somewhere so I smiled at him. Then it went like this:
Him: So... Single? Married? What?
Me: Boyfriend
Him: Oh. You ever consider cheating on him?
Me (a bit shocked): No
Him: Wow. That's harsh. Had to ask though.

WTF?!

Second dude was closing up his shop as I walked by it to get to 7-eleven. Sounded like he was clearing a hairball: "Pst pst, tsk tsk tsk, Pst! Aw..." Seriously, if you aren't going to speak actual words to me, don't get all hurt that I won't look at you or come bounding to you like a puppy.

Third dude had very little hair left on his head, just on the back of his head, and what was there was in really gross dreadlocks. (There are some people who do dreadlocks well, and take care of them. These looked bad and smelled worse.) I was behind him in line. He checked out and instead of leaving he remained at the counter, kinda in my way, puts down his can of Clamato and Budweiser and Lime (combined! ick! gag!) and just turns his head and looks me in the eyes and says "Hey" all alluring-like 3 or 4 times. I wasn't even ignoring him, I smiled and acknowledged his attention and then paid attention to my transaction. He only got up off of leaning on the counter when I finished my transaction. I dilly-dallied while he left in his classic (read=old) Ford Battlecruiser before leaving the store.

After that I was done for the day as far as journeying out into the wilderness. Watched Bring It On, and some other random stuff.

Writer's Block: Swine Times

Do you have a plan for avoiding contagion or dealing with quarantine?

View 501 Answers

As of July 2008, the population of California is 36,756,666 (according to Google, the trusted info source)

According to the CDC, # of laboratory confirmed cases in California is 14.

That is a very small percent. My calculator couldn't even give me a number for how small of a percent that is.

Sure, I'm a little concerned, as I ride a packed bus from Los Angeles to Santa Monica and back for over an hour every day.
Sure, the boyfriend did buy me facemasks in case it gets to a point where I should be wearing a facemask on the bus during my commute. He's being a good boyfriend. :)

But I'm going to stand by the immortal, friendly words printed on the cover of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy... Don't Panic

I went to the CVS this morning, mostly to buy candy for my desk, because people at work like it when I have candy at my desk. I remembered that we were out of hand sanitizer at home, which I usually keep close to the turtle tank because well, turtles poo, and when handling turtles you should have sanitizer handy when you're done.

No hand sanitizer ANYWHERE in the store. Not only was there no hand sanitizer ANYWHERE in the store, but there was a freaked out woman nearly crying on her cell phone in a sheer panic that there was NO hand sanitizer ANYWHERE in the store!!!!!~11!!~!!one!1!

My basket had an assortment of candy. I left the store with just that.

I understand concern, but panic, really, realized I can totally do without that.

Weekend in Review

Catching up on Heroes (was several episodes behind) and trying to get ahead on a few work things before Monday. Decided to take a moment for a general update.

Weekend was a busy one.

Started with a long trek to San Bernardino for a going away party for a good friend. It took 3 hours to get out there due to traffic. But we were glad to get to see him before he left and others we hadn't seen in a while. There was much karaoke to be had. Good times. Went to OC from there as Saturday's activities were all in that area.

Then up early to get a gift and head to bridal shower for my little bro's bride to be. Couldn't decide. Got a gift card. Headed over. The Bridal shower was lovely. Way cool and classy, just enough of the usual cheezy bridal shower games (just a little, but what there was fun) awesome food and cake at this little Mexican restaurant in Orange with a big outdoor dining area under huge shade trees.

Then we met up with the bf in Downtown Disney, hung out for a bit, and then off to the Honda Center to see Billy Joel and Elton John together in concert.

Wow... that was the COOLEST show. They sang parts of each others songs and sang together. Then Elton John did practically a full show. Then Billy Joel did practically a whole show. Then they came back together and did more stuff. They did some awesome dueling. Huge finales. All the great songs. Almost 4 hours non stop! It was very hot.

Was going to do a hike today, but my ankle/foot/heel was still bugging me. I only barely hurt it over a week ago, and initially it wasn't bad in the least, and during the day the pain goes away, but in the mornings it hurts as soon as I step down, and feels a little weak. I've been using heat pads and capsicum patches and whatnot, but am going to bite the bullet and go to the doctor finally. I can't pinpoint the exact area, sometimes it is more heel, sometimes more foot, sometimes more ankle.

With no hike, decided to go buy Guitar Hero Metallica. Played some of that, which rocks.
\m/ \m/

Did some laundry, organized some paperwork, made lunches for a couple of days, and right now, going to get back to multitasking Heroes/work/organizing/get ready for tomorrow.

Laters!

OMG Update

My life, of recent weeks, in ul format. Enjoy.

Started some real fitness and weightloss goals a while back.

Dropped 12 pounds so far. Won my 100 dollars back from the company "Biggest Loser"-esque challenge, plus an extra 40.

Discovered kickboxing, which has continued to be awesome.

Decided I need to start running or hiking more, but very seldomly do I have a spare weekend to fit these things in.

LARPing, dodging various drama in LARP org, including chronicle-wide reset stuff. No need to deal with that till June anyway.

Went to Phoenix for large featured game LARP. Trip was cool, in many ways, including being the first time in a very long time that Phoenix was not oppressively crazy hot when I was out there.

Work is busy. Not kick my ass busy but almost. Having to set many of my own goals, deadlines, deliverables. Keep questioning myself on things and hoping that my self-driven work is sufficient.

Going to New Orleans for LARP convention, and some extra days to also explore New Orleans. Hoping to stay final night as close to Bourbon Street as possible. Flights were so hella cheap we couldn't pass this up.

Will need to find turtle sitter during the trip.

Speaking of turtles, had to deal with vet for Byte, as quite a bit of shell was coming off.

Vet gave me some soaking stuff for turtle, and advice that includes feeding them live fishies.

Not too crazy about the live fishies part, but I really love those turtle gals so I'll be picking some up tonight. Also need to start feeding them in a separate tank from where they live.

No St. Patty's Day plans except for maybe doing work onthe computer and watching TV and maybe organizing clutter.

Growing appreciation for techno and dance music. Prolly due to gym and cardio work and cool stuff that was loaded on my ipod when I got it from a friend.

Any good suggestions on who to listen to from those genres are totally welcome.

also heard a lot of ska/punk covers over the weekend that I liked from a friend's playlist in the car to Arizona. AM going to be tracking some of those tracks down too.

Laters!

This is a very interesting question.

I'm not exactly sure what posessed me to choose this particular name, but I know that it took some thought.

It just sounded cute, and a bit naughty, and I only vaguely recall that some of the other choices that I wanted were already taken. I wanted something that was unique, no numbers or anything like that. Something fun, not just something generic or that vaguely described me.

Wow, it has been a long time since I've had to think about this.

I think something along the lines of "evil twin" inspired this too. Because ya know, there HAS to be an evil one. It's a moral imparative.

Whew!

Backing up some files so can't do much else, but as I can do an LJ entry, I may as well. It has been a while since a real entry. I blame Twitter and Facebook and my BlackBerry.

I'm over half way through my 6 week weight loss challenge with people at work, and have about 6 pounds to go over the next 3 weeks. If I make it, I get my 100 bucks back plus a share in the money left over of those who did not make it.

Went to kick boxing today. First time ever in a kickboxing class. Holy COW did it KICK the FRAK outta my ass!
Seriously. It was HARD! Fun, but wow, I'm gonna feel this one. At least I'm no longer neglecting my arms in my workouts by doing this.

Apartment flooding ordeal is nearly over. Once I clean the bathroom and set the turtle tank back up it will feel more over. The new apartment management was pretty quick in responding, but it has been officially a week and a day since water was seeping out of our walls. They wound up making about 6 holes in the ceiling and walls, cleaning up the water on the floor and carpet that was coming from the ceiling and various points in the walls, fixing pipes, patching things back up, and repainting. My turtles have been in my bathtub this whole time and very unhappy with things. Tonight I hope to make amends.

Lets see, what else has been happening in the world of evilbutcute?

Nascar was super fun, but mostly due to the performances and general hanging out than the race itself. I got to show my sis the massiveness of it all, and we were less than 6 feet away from Gavin Rossdale singing both old and new stuff. It was great. Saw Band From TV and Rev Theory too. They are all really good.

Bunches of gaming, mostly LARP. Did Strategicon the other weekend, and showed my sis what a game con was all about, as it was her first. I'm glad she had fun at that too.

Missed the Oscars, probably the first time I have done so in about 10 years. I just wasn't as excited about them this time around. Hadn't seen most of what was nominated, so that played a big part in it too.

Also, I am reading the Golden Compass trilogy, and really enjoying it. In the middle of the last book right now. Then maybe back to my Thursday Next novels.

Work has been way busy, so I'm gonna get back to it actually. I've had the opportunity to really Just wanted to check in while I had the chance.

Writer's Block: Half a Glass

Do you consider yourself an optimist, a pessimist, or a realist?

View 500 Answers

I think it is fairly safe to say that I'm an optimist. I've even been nicknamed "silver lining" on occaision, maybe even by a real live Nick. Go fig.

I think it is healthier to be an optimist. Stress, even if it only seems to be mental, is bad for your body. If your head is calm and you have a positive outlook your body isn't going to produce hormones to cause havoc. Even if that explanation, derived from something I read a while back, is total BS, I like to think there's something about it... See.. Optimisim. :)

I also find it difficult to not find some good even in bad things. I think it makes me a good judge of character, but I also tend to overlook faults in people that I should likely be more wary of. I try not to worry about such things though. :)

OMG a Post!

Yeah, I know, I have only posted like once this year.

I've been updating Facebook and Twitter at least... Righ?

Anywho, it has been a busy top of the year. Since I am just hanging on the bus with my blackberry, listening to Jamie Cullum on the iPod, I'll tell y'all about them.

Various visitors from out of town. Multiple trips to Disneyland including Club 33. A change in position at work where much of my position was left for me to define, which is good and bad because I am kinda good at second guessing myself when I make decisions. Coupla Saturdays spent working. Other Saturdays spent gaming. Game con less than 2 weeks away to plan for. Finances and taxes to sort out. Various birthday shenanigans last month. Have a hundred dollars riding on whether I can lose 5 percent of my body weight with a possibly larger payout if others in the group don't make it. Still getting the hang of eating better and trying to jumpstart getting active. Trying to cut spending and pay off credit cards. Discovered the Golden Compass trilogy, and that it is not the fluffy kids story I dismissed it as, a bit darker and more engaging than I expected it to be. Made my first Toastmaster speech, was totally scared but everyone thought I looked totally relaxed.

Eeek, gotta transfer busses, gonna take a break.

Cheers all!
